Have a physical therapy-related question? We have the answer. Check out these FAQs and give us a call today for more information!

  • Do I need to see a doctor before starting physical therapy?

In most cases, NO you do not. Wisconsin is a "direct access" state for physical therapy.  This means that you can see one of our physical therapists first when you are having pain or other problems we treat.

We recommend scheduling an appointment with us before going to your doctor, because as long as you provide us your physician information, we will gladly keep them informed with your progress, and you will be started on a plan to improve your condition much sooner than you can usually even schedule an appointment at your doctor's office.

  • Do you accept insurance?

YES! We accept all major insurances including Medicare, but we also offer Cash-based PT for people who do not have physical therapy insurance benefits.

Call with your insurance information and we can give you an idea of what your coverage for PT looks like.  Please note, it is ultimately up to the patient to verify their benefits for physical therapy coverage.  We will call on your behalf but can only repeat the information your insurance company representative gives us.  It is best to refer to your benefit handbook.

  • Do you have evening hours?

We are open most days from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm to accommodate work schedules.

  • Is there a difference between different PT clinics?

Physical Therapy is one of the best options for treating pain and dysfunction.  There are LOTS of options for PT, here are the main types of outpatient PT in our area:

Private Practice, Insurance-Based: This is our type of practice.  Patients choose to see us because we have expert level care and we also accept insurance.  Every program is individualized, and we were founded locally and are committed to adding value to our community.

Private Practice, Commercially Owned: This is the most common option.  You may get a great therapist, but the clinic is corporately owned, which means many of the practices are decided by a board of directors.

Private Practice, Cash-Based: Insurances can be difficult to work with, so many practices do not accept insurance.  Typically you will receive great care, but the price is usually higher than you might be prepared to pay for each session of PT.  We do offer Cash-Based options at our clinic, but we offer it at a much lower price point than a PT clinic that does all-cash work.

Hospital Owned Clinic: Most doctors are going to refer you to the clinic that their hospital administrator require their staff to support. You may get a skilled therapist, but if you have a copay or deductible, the cost will likely be extremely expensive.  Your therapy plan may be cut short due to the cost, and there may be long wait times to book your first appointment.  If your doctor puts a referral to PT and suggests their hospital clinic, it's important for you to know this is just a suggestion.  It is your choice, and with a little reasearch you can select the PT clinic that is best suited for your needs.

  • I wanted to go to FastBack PT, but my doctor's office is calling to schedule me at their clinic.

If you already have an order for physical therapy, it is YOUR DECISION where you attend physical therapy.  Even when a doctor signs a prescription for you to receive PT with US at FastBack PT, once that PT order is entered into your medical record, it is standard procedure for the hospital-affiliated PT clinic to call and say something like "your doctor wants you to schedule PT".  This does not mean you must go to the hospital PT clinic!  As soon as a PT order is placed in your chart, you can then attend any PT clinic you choose.  If you are concerned we are happy to reach out to your physician office to coordinate the process.

  • How do I know if I need a PT?

This is an important question to ask yourself! The answer is simple- if you have pain or dysfunction that doesn't get a little better every 10 days, it is probably not improving and may actually be getting worse.  If you've had this problem for a while, it's time to get some answers.  Give us a call to schedule a Free Pain Assessment TODAY!

  • How do I get started?

You are welcome to start with a "Free Pain Assessment" with one of our therapists and we will answer any questions you have about how PT might help you.

Keep in mind that we offer solutions that you might not have heard in the past.  Give us a chance to show how thorough we are in managing your condition!

  • What should I expect the first visit?

Meeting you in the first visit is our favorite part!  If you start with a Free Pain Assessment, the second step is a formal "Initial Evaluation".  In this visit, we take a comprehensive past medical and pain history, and conduct a thorough physical therapy examination.

We then educate you on the findings, and give immediate answers about where your problem comes from, why it isn't healing on its own, and the plan that will be effective at resolving the pain or dysfunction.

We finish by starting treatment designed to reduce your pain, or improve the quality of your movement.  By the time you leave your first session, you will have a better sense of WHY the problem hasn't gone away on it's own, and you will feel confident that you are now back on track to recover and GET BACK to your normal life.

  • Will I receive exercises to do at home?

Yes, we provide an unlimited membership to the Medbridge home exercise program which includes videos, custom tips and notes from your therapist, and an organized schedule to follow.

BUT, we build exercise programs that are designed to FIX the way you move.  Our goal is to heal your condition completely.  When done the right way, most of your exercises will not need to be done long term, because they are designed to make you move better.  This means that while you are going about your normal daily movements, you are actually doing your therapy exercises!

  • How do insurance copays and deductibles work for PT?

We accept medicare and all commercial insurances, most as an in-network provider.  If you don't have insurance we have affordable cash-pay treatment plans that can be adjusted to match your needs and your budget.

If you have insurance, you may have a copay, which is generally a fairly small amount that you would pay each visit you see us.  Your insurance plan my have a deductible, which means that you pay all of your medical expenses until you reach the set deductible amount.  You may also have a co-insurance, which is basically a total percentage of the bill that your insurance requires you to pay. Most common is 80/20, where insurance pays 80% and you pay 20%.

Confused?  No worries. For every patient, we generate a benefit verification form, that gives you an estimate of your cost-share amount so that you can make the best-informed decision for your treatment.  If you go to a different PT clinic, be sure to ask about these factors!  It is common for hospital PT clinics to charge 3-4x as much as our clinic, which really adds up even if you only owe 20% of the total bill.
